The Access 2.0 Project

The promise of the digital revolution — to make digitized information instantaneously accessible at little-to-no cost — remains unrealized, as a result of outdated information-management practices and attitudes. Requesters continually face excessive delays and fees for information that should be readily available, denying the public timely information about matters of civic importance. We believe records should be created, organized and stored from the outset with the goal of ease of public dissemination — and, wherever possible, affirmatively pushed out to the public rather than “pulled” by FOIA request. The Access 2.0 Project identifies the shortcomings in public data-management policies and develops solutions to make the public’s information more accessible in a prompt, affordable and easy-to-use format.
